Some of the most meaningful things in our lives deserve to become part of something that lasts.
I create one-of-a-kind ash glazes using materials that hold a special place in your heart.
This can be a small amount of cremation ashes from a beloved pet that become part of a bespoke glaze, creating a beautiful and lasting way to keep their memory close and transform cherished memories into functional art.
Or natural materials with a special meaning, such as pethair, your favorite tree, flowers, leaves, or wool can be transformed into a unique glaze, preserving the places, people and moments that matter most.
No two ash glazes are ever the same. Every material behaves differently in the kiln, making each finished piece completely unique.
How it works
1. Choose your meaningful material
Select the material you would like to incorporate into your custom glaze.
Suitable materials may include:
- Cremation ashes from a beloved pet
- Pethair, wool or other natural fibres
- Wood from a favourite tree, and old house,…
- Leaves, flowers or plants
- Other burnable natural materials with a personal meaning
If you’re unsure whether your material is suitable, simply get in touch. I’d be happy to discuss the possibilities with you.
A minimum of one espresso cup (about 80 millilitres) of ash is required to create your bespoke glaze. If you have less ash or are unsure whether you have enough, please get in touch. Together, we’ll find the best solution for your project.
2. Prepare your material
For materials that can be safely burned, such as wood, leaves, flowers or other plant matter, you have two options:
- Burn the material yourself and send me the resulting ash.
- Choose my burning service, and I’ll carefully prepare the ash for you before creating your bespoke glaze.
For materials that are already in ash form, simply send a small amount following the instructions you’ll receive after placing your order.
3. Choose your ceramic piece
Select from the available handmade ceramic pieces.
Your bespoke glaze can be applied to mugs, bowls, plates, vases, ornaments and many other items. Some pieces are better suited to ash glazes than others, and I’m happy to help you choose the best option. Ash glazes are naturally very fluid during firing. On upright surfaces, the glaze will therefore only be applied to the upper half of the piece, allowing it to flow naturally without sticking to the kiln shelf.
4. Glaze development
Creating an ash glaze is both a science and an art.
Every material contains different minerals and produces unique colours and textures when fired.
Because every material is different, the final colour, texture and finish cannot be guaranteed. This unpredictability is part of what makes each glaze truly one of a kind.
5. Handmade just for you
Once your glaze has been developed, your chosen ceramic piece is carefully glazed and kiln fired in my studio in Norway.
The result is a completely unique ceramic keepsake that could never be recreated.

Creating a bespoke ash glaze is a highly individual process and requires additional testing and development.
Please allow approximately 6โ10 weeks for completion after your material has been received.
As every material reacts differently during firing, each glaze is unique. Variations in colour, texture and surface are to be expected and are part of the beauty of handmade ash glazes.
