How to Use a French Butter Dish

A French butter dish keeps butter fresh and spreadable without refrigeration.

  1. Fill the base with cold water (about 1–2 cm). Tip: Use salted butter for best results, especially in warmer rooms.
  2. Press softened butter firmly into the lid. Remove any air pockets.
  3. Place the lid upside down into the base so the butter is sealed by the water.
  4. Store at room temperature, away from direct heat or sunlight.
  5. Change the water every 2–3 days to keep the butter fresh.
